Knowing how to use technology: the intelligence behind talent acquisition

by Victoria Hingre – Founder Nova Talenta

Technology now plays a central role in talent acquisition strategies. ATS, sourcing, data analysis and artificial intelligence solutions offer considerable potential for gaining agility and consistency. But the true value of these tools lies not so much in their sophistication as in how they are integrated, understood and used on a daily basis. A solution only delivers performance if it is part of a clear vision and a mastered practice.

Before choosing a tool, it is essential to identify the need it must actually meet. Are we looking to improve the visibility of applications, make pre-selection more reliable, streamline communication between recruiters and managers, or better manage performance indicators? Each technology responds to a different logic. The right choice is based as much on functional relevance as on the organisation's ability to adopt it smoothly.

Technological performance depends above all on the quality of use. A well-configured ATS, an up-to-date database, and a dashboard interpreted with discernment transform data into a real management tool. Conversely, an underused platform quickly becomes a hindrance. It is often less the technology that limits than the rigour or understanding of those who use it.

The companies that succeed in getting the most out of their tools are not necessarily the best equipped, but those that have been able to align technology with their culture and practices. They train their teams, define shared standards, and create a common language around data. Technology then becomes a lever for collective intelligence, facilitating consistency and responsiveness in decision-making.

Knowing how to use a tool also means knowing how to interpret it. Indicators and dashboards do not tell the whole story: they provide signals that must be placed in a human context. Behind a conversion rate, there is a dialogue, an experience, a candidate's feelings. Data provides guidance, but it is discernment that gives it meaning.

Finally, mastering tools requires a comprehensive approach: interoperability, security, respect for confidentiality, and GDPR compliance. Building a solid technological environment means, above all, ensuring the reliability of its flows and the trust of its users. This dimension becomes all the more critical in organisations where decisions are made quickly and where volumes of information are increasing.

Technology does not replace human skill, it extends it. Used well, it brings visibility, continuity and precision to the Talent Acquisition function. The challenge is not to pit human and digital against each other, but to find the right balance: one where data informs decisions without ever imposing them.

Mastering your tools means strengthening your ability to make clear decisions. In an environment where agility and accuracy in recruitment are becoming competitive advantages, this mastery represents a silent but decisive advantage.
